Day 26 The English Market Pure Cork Like!
I drove my housemates and I to Cork City with me as tour guide (me being a native Corkonian and all). After the drive up, we were all mega hungry so we headed for Farmgate cafe, in The English Market which was full so I decided to detour to The Quay Coop an organic vegetarian restaurant with a wholefood shop.
I had a splendid Chickpea with fresh salad, the presentation was poor with far too big portions but it was delicious. Felt far too full after lunch though.
Then following lunch, the next stop was O' Conaill's chocolate cafe and shop for what I would call the best hot chocolate in Cork in very comfy cafe surroundings.
A tour of The English Market followed which was a hive of activity, a banner hung over the English Market which read 'Cork The Food Capital of Ireland', it's so true.
The tour started with a very cute macaroon shop with pretty colours called 'Cameron Macaroonry', with all the macaroons hand made in West Cork.
Across from Cameron's Macaroonry is a fresh organic garden produce selling the best of vegetable and salad ingredients- as well as some fantastic nuts and all their produce is local and organic.
There's the most terrific cheese stall in the market named 'On The Pig's Back' who sell Irish Farmhouse cheeses, French cheeses and cured meat. A glorious selection of cheeses and we wanted to buy them all!
The tour concluded with a visit to Bubble Brothers who have a marvelous selection of wine from all over the world so we purchased a bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape for this evening's wine and cheese evening.
We strolled up to Mahers Coffee and purchased some fine 'Blend Six' coffee beans which have a blend of Java, Kenya and dark roast Colombian beans to give a strong but flavoursome coffee, fabulous.
We concluded the grand tour, which lasted the afternoon, by popping into my absolute favourite cafe in Cork which is located on Cork's South Mall part of the Imperial Hotel for some tea and cake. Wonderful.
What a lovely day, nice road trip, good food and great company.
Chat soon,
D
